Celts Land Four on All-SCAC List

The SCAC Announced its All-Conference listing this afternoon. Voted on by the league's Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors, the Celt Men's Basketball Team received four All-SCAC honors.

To round out the list, Calvin Williams IV was named to the first team, Nick Anderson was named to the second team. Angel Johnson and Marion Williams both received honorable mention nods. 

Calvin Williams continued his stellar performance from the previous season, showcasing his brilliance on the court. A mainstay in all 25 games for the Celts, he averaged an impressive 18.4 points per game, securing the 2nd rank in the SCAC, while maintaining a commendable shooting percentage of 44.5%. Throughout the season, he asserted his dominance, leading the SCAC with an impressive total of 460 points and exhibiting remarkable accuracy from the free-throw line, ranking 6th in the conference with an 82% success rate. Not only a scoring threat, Calvin also displayed his defensive prowess, amassing 91 rebounds, 43 steals (placing him 5th in the SCAC), and distributing the ball effectively with 79 assists (ranking 4th in the SCAC). His exceptional performances did not go unnoticed, as he claimed the SCAC Player of the Week title twice, following outstanding displays including consecutive 30-point performances against Trinity and Schreiner. Additionally, he garnered national recognition, being named the National Basketball Writers Association DIII Player of the Week and earning a spot on the prestigious Bevo Francis Award Top 100 watchlist.

Notably, Calvin stands out as the sole player to rank within the top 10 in all mentioned categories (PPG, Total Points, FT%, Steals, and Assists), further solidifying his status as a multifaceted talent in the conference.

Nick Anderson delivered a standout performance for UST this season, leaving a lasting impression with his remarkable achievements. Averaging 16.7 points per game in conference play, he claimed the 5th spot in the SCAC, while his impressive total of 250 points secured him the 5th position in SCAC play overall. Anderson's efficiency on the court was evident, as he maintained a shooting percentage of 45.7%, ranking 15th in SCAC play. Notably, his prowess at the free-throw line was unmatched, leading the SCAC with an impressive 87.9% success rate. With an impressive consistency, he reached double figures in 21 games and surpassed the 20-point mark on 11 occasions. Defensively, Anderson was equally impactful, contributing significantly with 101 total rebounds, 28 steals, and 13 blocks, showcasing his versatility and all-around game.

Angel Johnson emerged as a pivotal figure for the Celts this season, commanding the court with finesse, particularly on the defensive front, where he showcased his leadership in all 25 games as a starter. With an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.1, ranking 7th in the conference, Angel played a crucial role in maintaining possession for the team. Notably, his defensive contributions were notable, as evidenced by his remarkable tally of 78 rebounds and an impressive 81 assists, securing him the 3rd position in the SCAC. His defensive prowess was further highlighted by his impressive 44 steals, ranking him 3rd best in the conference. 

Marion Williams was a big-time shooter for St. Thomas reaching double figures in 12 of the 24 games he played in. Notably, beyond the arc, Marion shot a remarkable 39.8 percent good for 6th in the SCAC, and made 47 3s, good for 4th in the SCAC. His 221 points were also 29th, and added 83.3% from the charity stripe. Overall, Marion was 20th in shooting at 42.9%. He also dished out 40 assists, ranking 29th, and had 25 steals, ranking 21st.
