Men's Basketball Downs Dallas, 81-72

Men's Basketball opened up the new year with a convincing performance over the University of Dallas. The Celts would down the Crusaders, 81-72 to advance to 8-4 on the season.

 

The Celts would open the contest with a 15-3 run, drilling three of their six triples for the half within the first five minutes of play. They would maintain this double-digit lead for nearly the entire period, shooting 42 percent from the floor while stifling the Crusaders offense. Freddie Ricks III and Christian Alaekwe would lead the way for the Celts, both tallying ten points apiece.

 

Despite holding a 12-point lead to open the second half, the Celts would allow the Crusaders to claw themselves within five points with 12 minutes remaining. However, St. Thomas would post eight unanswered points late in frame to extend their lead to 16 and regain control of the game.

 

Down the stretch, Dallas would creep back to within striking distance, but the Celts would remain strong and pick up their second victory of conference play.  

 

Christian Alaekwe would post a season high 24 points, draining five three-pointers. He would also leave his mark on the defensive end with a pair of blocks and a steal. Andrew Nguyen would reach double-digit scoring for the second consecutive game with 14 points. Nguyen would dish out a game high four assists.
