Strong Second Half Propels Celts to Victory

Strong Second Half Propels Celts to Victory

Men's basketball bounces back with a 25-point wire to wire victory over Schreiner. The Celts led the game or were tied for all but nine seconds of the contest,

Good transition play in the opening minutes allowed the Celts to open up a 14-4 lead to start the game. Scoring was evenly distributed throughout the team. Schreiner then responded with their own 17-6 run to take a 21-20 lead, which would be their only lead of the half. However, the Celts could not extend their lead to more than six and went into the half with a 37-34 lead.

Both teams started the second half scoring quickly, led by Juan Hood who scored or assisted on the Celts first 13 points of the half. Hood scored 20 points in the second half alone, allowing the Celts to close the door on Schreiner outscoring them 51-29 in the half.

The Celts were led by Juan Hood, who finished with a career high 27 points on the day, also dishing out 8 assists and stealing the ball 3 times . A solid shooting performance led Hood to his career day, going 11-11 from the free throw line and 4-7 from deep. Cameron Gims also had a strong contribution, making his presence felt on the defensive end as usual with 3 steals and a couple of blocks. Gims also finished with a double double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, shooting 5-6 from the field and a stellar 4-5 from three.

The Celts return home to face Austin College this Friday at 7:00 PM.
