Men's Basketball wrapped up their non-conference slate with a nearly wire-to-wire victory against McMurry on Sunday night. St. Thomas led comfortably for most of the night and coasted late to an 89-76 victory.

McMurry drew first blood on a jumper to take a 2-0 lead, but it would be their biggest lead of the night. Calvin Williams IV responded with a three, then slid a pass to Nicholas Buffalo for a dunk, and the UST offense never looked back. Williams and Buffalo combined to score the first 14 points of the game for the Celts. McMurry shot the ball well early to keep up, eventually taking a 15-14 lead, but Angel Johnson hit a three to regain the lead, and a layup from Williams shortly thereafter would put UST ahead for good. Marion Williams scorched the net for 5 threes in the half, including a stretch of four in three minutes. Behind those bursts, UST led 41-30 at the break.

The Warhawks fought back to within 6 early in the second half before Nick Anderson took the game over. Anderson took 12 shots in the second half, missing only two and scoring 24 points in the second frame. Anderson scored from all over the floor and single-handedly pulled UST away in the half. Calvin Williams IV had 10 points in the second half as well, but it was the offensive display from Anderson that effectively ended the game early. Chance Thalmann hit a couple late threes to bring the crowd to life in the closing minutes as the Celts cruised to the 89-76 final.

Nick Anderson led all scorers with 24 points in his monster second half despite not scoring at all in the first. Calvin Williams IV chipped in 20 points and 8 assists, and Nicholas Buffalo recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds in his first start of the season.

St. Thomas now heads to conference play after a big week to close the non-conference portion of the season. Conference play opens on the road Friday evening against Dallas at 5:30. Be sure to follow ustcelts.com for scores and updates.
