Celts Down Dallas Behind Alaekwe's 30-Point Night

Celts Down Dallas Behind Alaekwe's 30-Point Night

Christian Alaekwe would have a career night with 30 points on eleven-of-sixteen shooting while draining six triples in the Celts 16-point victory Saturday night. St. Thomas would flex on the University of Dallas Crusaders, smothering them both ends of the ball.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Celts would distance themselves from the Crusaders, building a 11-point lead late in the frame. However, Dallas would stay within striking distance and head into the break only down eight.

With the contest still close, Alaekwe would open up the second half with seven unanswered points, warranting a Crusader timeout. The Celts would keep their foot on the gas pedal, stretching out their lead to a comfortable margin. St. Thomas would hold Dallas to just 37-percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes of the game to walk away with their seventh SCAC win.

Alongside of Alaekwe, Calen Anderson would contribute on the offensive end with 16 points. Cameron Gims and Juan Hood would chip in eight points apiece. Gims also recorded five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

The Celts head home for a doubleheader next weekend with TLU and Southwestern. On Friday, February 4th, St. Thomas will face off with the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran.
