Celts improve to 20-1 with victory at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas avenged their only loss of the 2019-20 season Friday with an 80-58 win at Texas Lutheran.

Kennard Robinson (Houston, Texas / Sam Houston MSTC) scored a game-high 22 points and handed out six assists to lead the Celts to their 20th win in 21 games. UST improved their first-place record in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play to 13-1.

Cameron Gims (Cypress, Texas / Cy-Fair HS) scored 15 points and pulled in five rebounds. Freddie Ricks III (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Springs) added 11 points for the Celts.

The Celts entered the game with a mission of evening the season series with TLU, who claimed a 77-74 win in Houston on Jan. 10. UST led from start to finish as they jumped out to a 19-4 lead midway through the first half and never looked back.

UST held TLU to 21 percent shooting (6 of 29) from the field in the first half as the Celts built a 36-31 lead. The Celts shot 42 percent (13 of 31) before halftime.

TLU (12-8) fell into a second-place tie with Austin College at 9-4 in SCAC play. At 13-1, UST needs just one win in its last four games to clinch at least a share of the SCAC regular-season championship.

The Celts' road trip continues Saturday when they visit Southwestern. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
