Men's Basketball Edged by Trinity, 64-55

In what was a SCAC championship game rematch, Men's Basketball dropped a tight contest to Trinity University, 64-55.

This heavyweight bout featured eight lead changes and would be decided in the closing minutes of the contest. A timely Trinity three-pointer would give them the advantage with 90 ticks left on the clock. Despite having quality looks to even things up, the Celts would fail to connect and see the victory slip away from them.

To open the game, St. Thomas would struggle to build a substantial lead over Trinity, who would remain within striking distance for nearly the entire half. However, as the frame winded down, the Celts would stretch their lead to as many as ten behind Christian Alaekwe's 15 first-half points.

The Tigers would erase their halftime deficit with seven unanswered points to open the second half. This would be the start of a back and forth battle for an important conference victory. Trinity would walk away with the win, earning the split on the season with the Celts.

Alaekwe would continue his tear on the offensive end of the ball, posting a game-high 21 points while grabbing nine boards. Cameron Gims would get it done on both sides of the ball, flirting with a triple double. The senior guard would chip in nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while also recording four steals and two blocks.

The Celts will return to action tomorrow when they take on Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
