Men's Basketball Defeats Schreiner, 64-56

Men's Basketball Defeats Schreiner, 64-56

Facing off with one of the hottest teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Celts would prevail, downing the Schreiner University Mountaineers.

St. Thomas would start the contest firing, jumping out to a 13-3 lead. After Christian Alaekwe's opening bucket, the Celts would nail three-straight triples before the Mountaineers could even blink. Shooting 41 percent from the floor in the first half, St. Thomas would head into the break leading by 11.

Picking up where they left off, the Celts would continue to shoot the ball at a high clip in the second half. St. Thomas would hang onto their double-digit lead for nearly the entire frame, however, Schreiner would fight back with four minutes remaining. With their advantage cut to just six-points, the Celts would respond with four consecutive layups to crush all Mountaineer momentum.

Alaekwe would lead the way with a game-high 19 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor. The senior guard has been lights out on the offensive end of the ball since starting league play and is currently the leading scorer in the conference averaging 19.9 PPG.

Adam Kanafani would play 27 minutes off the bench and notch 15 points while grabbing five rebounds. Recording a game-high four assists would be Andrew Nguyen. Nguyen would also add nine points to the Celts scoring total.

St. Thomas now sits atop of the SCAC standings with a 6-2 record (12-5 overall). The Celts will continue their road trip at Dallas next Saturday.
