Men's Basketball Completes Comeback Over Lewis & Clark

Men's Basketball Completes Comeback Over Lewis & Clark

Men's Basketball erased a 17-point deficit to defeat the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers. Sophomore Ricky Altamirano would provide a huge spark off the bench, tallying a career-high 17 points.

Altamirano would shoot 64% from the field while draining a pair of triples. He would leave his print on the contest on the defensive end as well logging seven rebounds, five steals and a block.

The hot-shooting Pioneers would connect on six of their eleven three-pointers in the first half to jump on the Celts early. Shooting woes would plague St. Thomas as they would go 31% from the field and just 29% from the behind the arc in the first half. The Celts, however, would battle back as the half wound down, cutting their deficit to nine after a three-quarter court shot from Zack Golaszewksi would fall as time expired

With the final period underway, the Celts would continue to claw their way back into the game. It wasn't until an Altamirano and-one layup with 6:27 in the game, would cap off a 17-2 run to give St. Thomas their first lead of the game.

They would build onto this lead and hold off Lewis & Clark to capture their third victory of the season.

Joshua Sanchez would fill up the stat sheet and provide timely buckets for the Celts down the stretch. He would finish the game with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Cameron Gims would record 13 points to compliment his three steals and one block in 30 minutes of action. Junior forward Calen Anderson would continue on his tear logging the near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

St. Thomas would lead in nearly every statistical category, most notably in points off turnovers and bench points. The Celts would turn the Pioneers over 20 times, resulting 26 of their 81 points. For the third contest this season, St. Thomas' bench play would shine and outscore their opponent. Tonight, half of the Celts' points would account from their bench, dominating Lewis & Clark 42-22.
