Men's Basketball Storms Past Austin College

Men's Basketball Storms Past Austin College

Men's Basketball clinched the weekend sweep with a strong performance against the Roos of Austin College, 76-61

After a 40-point victory in the previous game, UST found themselves in a dog fight during the first half of play against Austin College. Turnovers haunted both teams to start this fast-paced half but both teams were able to handle the pressure and shoot over 47% from the field. The Celts gained a slight advantage towards the end of the first and took a six-point lead heading into the half. Juan Hood shot the ball well, converting on six of his nine shot attempts and knocking down both of his three-pointers. Hood led all scorers with 16 points. Junior guard, Cameron Gims also saw success from downtown hitting three times from distance in the half.

The second half started with a bang as Gims connected from three yet again to extend the Celts lead. UST would continue to put it on the Roos but Austin College continued to hang around within striking distance. The Celts would maintain their lead through the entire second half and would eventually pull away to claim a 15-point victory. This outing secured the weekend sweep for the Celts with an average margin of victory of 27.5 points.

The Celts finished the game with four players in double figures. Juan Hood led the charge with 18 points and six assists. Christian Alaekwe filled up the box score with 11 points, six boards, four assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Cameron Gims posted 14 points and seven rebounds, while Joshua Sanchez chipped in 10 points of his own. Yet again a hot shooting performance from the Celts kept the Roos at bay as the led for the entirety of the contest.

The team is back in action next week as they prepare for a road weekend at Texas Lutheran.
