HOUSTON – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas claimed their sixth consecutive win Sunday with a 92-82 win over Schreiner.

At UST's Jerabeck Center, Kennard Robinson (Houston, Texas / Sam Houston MSTC) and Nathan Thormaehlen (Katy, Texas / Katy) scored 23 points apiece while Freddie Ricks III (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Springs) chipped in 21 points to lead the Celts.

The win was UST's 19th in 20 games this season. The Celts maintained the top spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 12-1 league record.

Robinson tallied his second double-double of the season as he added 10 assists to his totals. After handing out 12 assists in Friday's win over Trinity, Robinson became the first SCAC player in nearly four years to reach double-figures in assists in two consecutive games with Sunday's 10-assist showing.

Meanwhile, Thormaehlen scored his 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting, which included going 5-for-7 from 3-point range. He has shot 67 percent (12 of 18) from long range over his last two games.

Sunday's game gave the Celts a challenge, as Schreiner led by as many as 14 points with less than seven minutes to play in the first period. The Celts shortened that lead thanks to a 13-0 run, and trailed by only six at halftime.

The Celts then opened the second half with a 16-2 run that gave them a 54-46 lead. UST led by as many as 13 points in the second half.

Late in the half, Schreiner erased a 79-69 lead with 10 unanswered points to tie the game with 3:01 left to play. The Celts then reeled off 11 points in a row – including nine in a row from Robinson – to rebuild their lead with less than a minute remaining in the game. Robinson knocked down a layup and seven consecutive free throws during that stretch.

The Celts return to action Friday when they travel to Seguin to face Texas Lutheran in a battle of the SCAC's two top teams. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
