Men's Basketball Drops Southwestern, 76-71

Men's Basketball picked up their tenth win in league play after a thrilling victory over Southwestern, 76-71. Despite leading by as much as 14 in the second half, the Celts would survive a late Pirate run to secure yet another key win.

St. Thomas would start in on Southwestern early, shooting the ball with a high-clip from deep to open the contest. Assisting on six of their first seven buckets, the Celts were locked in on the offensive end of the ball. The Pirates would keep it close, answering every St. Thomas run with one of their own.

With 6:24 left, Adam Kanafani would score five-straight points to give the Celts some breathing room down the stretch. Timely makes from Andrew Nguyen and Andrew Adebo would grant St. Thomas a 12-point lead headed into halftime.

The Celts would maintain this lead for the first 12 minutes of the second half, keeping pace with their first half shooting total. However, a late Southwestern run would cut St. Thomas' lead to just three with two minutes remaining. With 14 ticks left on the clock, Joshua Sanchez would seal the game with clutch hook shot, putting the Celts up five.

Christian Alaekwe would lead the Celts on the offensive end with 17 points. Alaekwe would also add a team-high six rebounds. Juan Hood would provide a spark off the bench, scoring big buckets for the Celts, totaling for 15 points and six assists.

With Trinity dropping a game to Texas Lutheran, St. Thomas now sits atop the conference with a 10-2 record.
