Men's Basketball Falls to LeTourneau in Season Opener

In their season opener Wednesday night, Men's Basketball traveled to LeTourneau. In a tense, back-and-forth affair that featured 13 ties and 15 lead changes, the Celts held a slim lead throughout most of the game, but LeTourneau staged a late comeback to steal the win, 72-69.

In the first half, UST jumped out to an early 8-0 lead behind makes from Calvin Williams IV, Andrew Adebo, and Calen Anderson. The Yellowjackets immediately answered with a run of their own to get back into it, and the teams struggled to separate from each other for the rest of the half. Adebo and Anderson continued to score to keep pace with LeTourneau's scorers, and the Celts held a slim halftime lead of 28-26.

The Celts continued to keep up to start the second half, led by Calvin Williams IV scoring 5 early points. In the last 10 minutes of the game, both offenses caught fire. Williams and Adebo scored 23 of the last 27 points for the Celts, but LeTourneau's balanced scoring kept them close throughout the half before the Yellowjackets took the lead in the final minute. Luke Ramirez had a shot to tie the game at the buzzer, but he couldn't convert as the Celts fell to 0-1 on the season.

Williams led all scorers in the game with 29 points, including 24 in the second half, and Adebo and Calen Anderson combined for 23 points on 11-for-14 shooting in the losing effort for the Celts.

St. Thomas looks to bounce back and get in the win column on Saturday against Arlington Baptist, which is also the Homecoming game for UST. Be sure to come out to the JAAC for festivities and to support the Celts!
