Celts Fall to Schreiner 91-88

The Celts fell to the Mountaineers of Schreiner University Friday night, 91-88. Adam Kanafani recorded a career-high 32 points in the loss

From the opening tip, this fast-paced half produced excitement and energy. Both the Celts and the Mountaineers traded blows for the entirety of the first half. As they settled into their defense, the Celts strung together multiple stops to gain control over Schreiner. Back to back and-ones by freshman, Adam Kanafani fueled an 11-0 Celt run to finish the half. Kanafani led all scorers with 20 points and 7 rebounds; while Christian Alaekwe posted 10 points and 5 rebounds to give the Celts a 43-35 lead.

To cope with the Celts momentum, Schreiner threw multiple defenses at UST to start the second half. The eight-point halftime lead quickly vanished as the Mountaineers stormed back to take the lead. The hot hand belonged to Schreiner as they extended the lead to 11 with four minutes left to play. A late comback brought the Celts within two with 30 ticks remaining but the free throw shooting of Schreiner prevailed which put the game out of reach.

Adam Kanafani led all scorers with 32 points. He also grabbed 11 boards and had 3 steals. Christian Alaekwe recorded a season-high 21 points and 7 rebounds.

The Celts fall to 3-2 and will hit the hardwood tomorrow for their second game against Schreiner University.
