52 Point Second Half Powers Celts Over Concordia

52 Point Second Half Powers Celts Over Concordia

Men's Basketball wrapped up their non-conference season against Concordia taking the game 96-79. With this win, the team's overall record improves to 6-1 on the year heading into SCAC play.

The first half saw the Celts and Tornados nearly go point for point. Neither team was able to pull away until late in the half, as three ties and seven lead changes showed the flow of the game. Seven fast breaks from Concordia helped tire out the St. Thomas defense, yet it wasn't enough to put the game out of reach. The Celt bench had a strong showing in the first half with 26 points in relief of the starting five to take a five-point 44-39 lead into the locker room at halftime. Coming out the half, a costly Concordia foul gave way to two Joshua Sanchez free throws, and from there St. Thomas just added to their lead. As large as 19 points ahead of the Tornados, the second half was dominated by the Celts shooting nearly 62 percent as a team on the floor. Defensively, the Celts also forced 17 Tornado Turnovers, which proved costly. They also shot a perfect 100% on the free throw line, to help with 52 points total in the second half against Concordia's 40. As the clock hit zero, the Celts beat Concordia 96-79.

Offensively, Ricky Altamirano led with 20 points in the game, and Calvin Williams IV, dished out five assists. Defensively, Calen Anderson tabbed nine rebounds and Nick Anderson had two blocks.

Up next, SCAC play tips off for the Celts as they take on Schreiner this Friday, December 2nd. Come out to the Jerabeck Activity and Athletics Center to support your Celts!
