Men's Basketball Soars Past Schreiner in SCAC Opener

Men's Basketball won big in their conference opener here at the JAAC against Schreiner 60-34. Strong defense by the St. Thomas Celts helped them soar past Schreiner.

Opening up the game both teams started out strong on defense for the first 10 minutes of the half the score was only 10-9 with the Celts in the lead. This was powered by big three-pointers from Calvin Williams IV and Freddie Ricks. Closing the first half things were still close but back-to-back threes from Ricky Altamirano and Luke Ramirez were the spark they needed to separate themselves from the Mountaineers as the Celts were able to go on a 13-2 run to end the half.  Continuing the fire, Zach Golaszewski scored the Celts first eight points out of the half, which led to a 22-5 run with Nick Anderson scoring a quick eight points and putting the Celts up 50-22. St. Thomas closed out the game with a three-pointer by Calvin Williams IV and Eren Erten as it made the final score 60-34.

Offensively Calvin Williams IV led the team with 14 going 2-4 from deep and Nick Anderson with 10 points. Defensively the Celts totaled up 14 steals and six blocks with Calvin Williams notching three himself.

Up next, the Celts take on the Trinity Tigers here at the JAAC Sunday, December 4th at 2 pm. Come out and support your Celts.
