UST Men's Basketball travelled to Shreveport to take on Centenary College in a game with serious seeding implications for the upcoming SCAC Basketball Tournament. The Celts were able to pull away with a 66-63 win over the Gents to advance to 7-2 in conference play.

The Celts, who possess the SCAC's top offense was challenged by the league's best defense in the Gents of Centenary College. However, in the first half, UST possessed the strong defense holding the Gents to just 16% from the field. The Celts struggled to find their groove initially, but the shots would eventually fall from deep. Five different Celts would hit a three this half including Cameron Gims who knocked down a pair of triples. As a unit, they went six of fifteen from behind the arc. Joshua Sanchez was a extremely efficient shooting 75% from the field and 100% from the charity stripe. He would lead all scorers at half with nine points as the Celts led Centenary 31-18.

The double-digit lead constructed by the Celts would quickly diminish as Centenary would claw back to make the contest a one possession game for the majority of the half. Timely shots by Zach Golaszewski and Christian Alaekwe gave UST the advantage to hold off each of the Gents' runs. As a last second heave by Centenary fell short, the Celts escaped this heavyweight bout with a 66-63 victory.

Cameron Gims was a force tonight recording 12 points, grabbing a season-high 18 rebounds and tallying three steals and two blocks. The defending SCAC Defensive Player of the Year yet again made his case to be a serious contender at defending these honors. Three other Celts reached double figures as Sanchez pitched in a team high 13 points, while Alaekwe and Golaszewski both had 10 points of their own.

UST hits the hardwood again tomorrow as they look for the weekend sweep over Centenary College.
