Cardiac Celts Comeback to Defeat UDallas

Cardiac Celts Comeback to Defeat UDallas

Men's Basketball overcame a 12-point, second half deficit to grab their second win of the season against UDallas, 80-77.

The Celts started the game with great energy and constructed a 16-5 run to open the half, which resulted in an early UDallas timeout. However, the Crusaders put together a 29-8 run of their own to gain control and momentum. A last second running-layup from Juan Hood brought the Celts within two heading into the break. Christian Alaekwe and Juan Hood both chipped in seven points for the Celts, Nathan Ghavidel followed with six of his own.

UST struggled to find their shooting stroke to start the second half and dug themselves into a 12-point hole by the second media timeout. After stringing together stops, creating turnovers and applying pressure in transition, the Celts clawed back to take a 66-64 lead with nearly five minutes left to play. The final five minutes of the contest featured both teams answering each other's buckets. A deep shot behind the arc by Junior, Cameron Gims brought the Celts within one with 1:26 to go. An immediate steal and jumper by Juan Hood granted them the one-point lead. To compliment Hood's career night, he iced the game with a steal during UDallas' last effort to tie the game.

The Celts saw four players reach double figures as Juan Hood and Christian Alaekwe led the way with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Both of the UST's top scorers also shined defensively. Combined they recorded 14 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 blocks. Adam Kanafani continued his dominance in the paint with 13 points, while Cameron Gims put up 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Celts will go for the weekend sweep tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
