Career Day from Andrew Nguyen Helps Celts Dominate Southwestern 76-44

In dominating fashion, Men's basketball took care of business against Southwestern this Sunday afternoon. After going up early, the Celts never looked back and won 76-44, powered by Andrew Nguyen's career-high performance.

From the opening tip, it was nothing but St. Thomas. In the first half, the Celts nearly quadrupled the Pirates score 43-18. St. Thomas seemingly made it rain going nearly 60 percent from the floor and making half of their three point shots. Jumping out to a lead as large as 26 and a 20 point scoring run, the Celts did not give an inch to the visiting Pirates. This was powered by 11 points from both Freddie Ricks and Andrew Nguyen. Nguyen made three-three-pointers to contribute to his effort. The St. Thomas bench also got involved, adding 19 points with eight different point scorers this half.

In the second half, the Celts did not take the foot off the gas adding 33 points to their 76 point performance. With 12 fast breaks this period, St. Thomas shut down any chance at a Southwestern comeback with quick buckets. Then as the clock winded down, the Celts picked up their 12th consecutive SCAC victory winning 76-44.

Andrew Nguyen had a career-high performance with 21 total points in the game. Freddie Ricks III was right behind him with 15 points.

Up next, Men's Basketball continues SCAC action on the road at Austin College. Follow UST athletics for all scores and updates.
