UST Men Knock Off Jarvis Christian College

HAWKINS, Texas – The University of St. Thomas men's basketball team won its fifth straight game, beating host Jarvis Christian, 83-64, Friday night.

The Celts (18-7, 9-4 Red River Athletic Conference) maintained its tie for second in the league entering Saturday's 7:30 p.m. tilt at No. 15 Wiley.

Three players scored in double figures for the Celts, who shot 28 of 61 from the floor, and knocked down 11 of 19 triples. Orowo Eleyae (SR/Houston, Texas) had 18 points and two steals, and shot 7-for-11. Cameron Gims (FR/Cypress, Texas) had 16 points, nine rebounds and a block. Paris Marquez (SR/Atascocita, Texas) had 17 points, five rebounds and two steals. Quashi "Ayo" Philips had six points, nine boards and a block.

UST held Chasten King, the nation's leading scorer, to 17 points on 5 of 13 shooting. Jaewon Williams added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs, who were limited to a 5-for-28 three-point shooting effort.

The Celts built a 45-30 halftime lead, and held on to win.

St. Thomas returns home 7:30 p.m. Friday against No. 23 Louisiana State-Shreveport.
