TYLER, Texas – Orowo Eleyae (SR/Houston, Texas) scored with 14 seconds left to pull St. Thomas men's basketball team within one, but Texas College sank a free throw in the closing seconds, and Paris Marquez (SR/Atascocita, Texas)'s desperation three-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

Texas College pulled off the upset, 67-65, Saturday night.

The Celts (13-7, 5-4 Red River Athletic Conference) lost for the second straight Saturday on the road. UST will play two more games on the road this week before returning home Jan. 31.

St. Thomas trailed 31-29 at the break in game where the Celts led by as many as seven, and trailed by as many as six. Texas College gained the lead eight times and St. Thomas seven. The game featured nine ties, four of which the Celts were responsible for.

With 16:02 remaining, Cameron Gims (FR/Cypress, Texas) hit a three-pointer to put St. Thomas ahead, 40-33. But the Steers went on a 9-0 run to take a two-point lead with 11:41 to play.

The Celts regained the lead with 3:28 left when Gims sank two free throws. But Nicolas Castillion sank a pair from the stripe to tie the game at 58. Gims made a free throw to put the Celts up, 59-58, before the two teams traded baskets on the next three possessions to knot it up at 63 on Kennard Robinson (JR/Houston, Texas)'s basket in the paint at the 1:24 mark.

Dominique Phelgm's triple with 27 seconds to play gave the Steers the lead for good. Eleyae's basket with 14 seconds left made it a one-point game, but a turnover and the missed shot at the buzzer prevented the Celts from a last-second victory.

Gims finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Eleyae had 18 points and six boards. Marquez had 10 points, and Sam Flores (SR/El Paso, Texas) and Kennard Robinson each scored eight.

The Celts will play at Dallas Christian 6 p.m. Tuesday.
