Centenary (La.) snaps UST's eight-game win streak

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas saw their eight-game winning snapped Friday as they fell at Centenary (La.) by a score of 99-89.

In a battle of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's top two teams, the host Gents turned an eight-point lead into a 20-point advantage in the early stages of the second half to hand the Celts only their second loss in 2019-20.

Cameron Gims (Cypress, Texas / Cy-Fair) scored 25 points for the Celts (21-2, 14-2 SCAC). Kennard Robinson (Houston, Texas / Sam Houston MSTC) chipped in 20 points and eight assists, while Nathan Thormaehlen (Katy, Texas / Katy) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Cedric Harris and Ralph Johnson scored 28 points apiece for Centenary (14-9, 11-5 SCAC).

The Celts had only two leads in the game at 3-2 and 6-5. Centenary slowly gained a comfortable advantage throughout the first half and took a 47-39 lead into halftime.

Despite the loss, the Celts have already clinched the regular-season SCAC championship.

The Celts come home for their final two regular-season games this weekend. They begin the weekend with a matchup against the University of Dallas on Friday; tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
