Men's Basketball Celebrates Senior Class

HOUSTON, Texas – Four University of St. Thomas men's basketball seniors will play their final games at the Jerabeck Activity & Athletic Center this weekend.

Paris Marquez, Orowo Eleyae, Sam Flores and Peter Ellwanger all will suit up for the final time in UST red and black at the JAAC. The Celts (18-10, 9-7 Red River Athletic Conference) will host Paul Quinn College (4-22, 2-14) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Texas College (9-20, 7-9) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the final regular season weekend.

UST will also compete in the RRAC Tournament March 7-9 at LeTourneau University.

The Celts, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll, are looking to secure their first 20-win season since 2013-14.

Marquez surpassed 1,000 career points in his three years at UST last weekend. Eleyae leads the Celts in scoring this season at 17.1 per game. Flores is averaging 7.8 points and shooting .432 per game. Ellwanger has appeared in 13 games, and is averaging 1.3 points.

UST beat Paul Quinn, 83-60, on the road Jan. 18. Eleyae had 12 points, and Cameron Gims and Nathan Thormaehlen each scored 10 in that win. Jordan Smith scored 17, and Tyrese King had 15 for Paul Quinn.

The Celts dropped the first meeting with Texas College, falling, 67-65. Gims had 19 points and eight rebounds. Eleyae had 18 points and six boards. Marquez scored 10. Dominique Phelgm and Christian Bryant scored 12 apiece for Texas College.

The RRAC champion volleyball and women's soccer teams will be honored at halftime of Friday's game. Both teams will unveil their 2018 RRAC championship banners.

UST's four seniors will be honored during Saturday's Senior Day.
