HOUSTON – University of St. Thomas golfer Leah Torres has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Freshman of the Year, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to earn the honor.

Torres made an immediate impact in her debut season, finishing as the top rookie at the 2025 SCAC Championships and earning All-SCAC Honorable Mention. She placed 11th overall in the field with a three-round score of 262, while finishing fourth in total pars (25) and tied for fourth in par-5 scoring average (5.25).

Over the 2024-25 season, Torres competed in eight events and posted three top-three finishes, showcasing both her consistency and competitive edge. She finished the year ranked No. 164 nationally and No. 45 in the West Region, with an adjusted scoring average of 79.8.

With the SCAC Freshman of the Year title, Torres adds her name to the record books as UST Women's Golf continues to rise within the conference and beyond.
