Celts atop D3 Programs at Paiute Battle

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of St. Thomas women's golf concluded play Tuesday at the Paiute Battle Classic in one of their final tuneups before the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships next month.

 

Played at the Coyote Golf Club at Sun Mountain, the Celt women finished 12th out of 17 teams with a 62-over-par 717 at the event. The Celts were one of two NCAA Division III teams in the event and finished ahead of four NAIA teams as well as SCAC rival Schreiner.

 

Emma Luna and Trinity Le were the top two finishers for the Celts, as they both finished tied for 37th in a field of 91 competitors with a 30-over-par 174 for the two-day event. Luna took eight strokes off her round one total when she carded an 83 in the second round Tuesday, the best by a UST player at the event.

 

Le turned identical 87 scores to reach her final total. She was one of three players to finish at 1-over-par on the course's par-3 holes, good for a 3.13 average. Only player in the field finished at par for those holes.

 

Myra Truong finished the event with a score of 182, while Alyssa Goins finished with a 187, improving by nine strokes from 98 to 89 in the second round.

 

British Columbia won the event with a 35-over-par 651.

 

The Celts return to action next week when they participate in the Linda Lowery Invitational, hosted by Concordia Texas at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin.
