Women’s Golf 3 strokes off the lead at Schreiner Spring Shootout

Freshman Emma Koch fires a personal best and Junior Emma Luna cards a matching 5-over par 77 as the Celts are in the hunt in Kerrville.

Kerrville, Texas — The University of St. Thomas women's golf team fired a 26-over par 314 and are in 2nd place at the Schreiner Spring Shootout.

Freshman Emma Koch carded a new personal best in round one. Her 5-over par 77 included three birdies: the third most in the field. She sits T2 in the 40 player field and is only five back of the leader.

Junior Emma Luna fired a 5-over par 77 and is T2 alongside her teammate Koch. Luna's round included four birdies: tied for the most birdies on the day. Tomorrow, she goes for her second collegiate win as she sits just five shots back of the leader.

St. Thomas' 26-over par 314 is the women's third lowest round of the year: They are three strokes out of first place held by California Lutheran University (311). The Lady Celts had 12 birdies on the day – best in the entire field. Four birdies came on one par 5 – the 476-yard par 5 7th hole. The women will look for more birdies tomorrow as they look for their first win of the Spring season. Round two will be a shotgun start at 8:30am. Follow the women live on golfstat!

The Lineup

• Freshman Emma Cook carded a 7-over-par 79 in round one and is T6. Her sole birdie came on the 476-yard par 5 7th hole.  

• Senior Trinity Le started her day on the back nine and fired an 8-over par 44. She answered on the Valley side at Comanche Trace with a 1-over par 37 to shoot a hard fought 9-over par 81. She sits T10 after her three-birdie day.

• Sophomore Regina Perez carded an 18-over par 90 in round one. Her day was highlighted with a birdie on her final hole; the 370-yard par 4 11th hole.
