Women's Golf in 3rd After Round 1 at SCAC Championships

Women's Golf tee'd off at the SCAC Championships this Sunday morning. After the first round of action, the Celts finished third place and just three strokes behind Southwestern.

As a team, the Celts fired a combined score of 331, and are three strokes behind 2nd place, and just 16 strokes behind 1st place Trinity. 

St. Thomas was led by four players within the top 12 of the rankings in the first day of action.

The Lineup:

Junior Emma Luna was a steady presence for the Celts firing an 82 (+10) in the opening round. Luna finished tied for sixth place with 9 pars on the day.

Senior Trinity Le in her last SCAC Tournament tied Luna in sixth with an 82 (+10). Le's scorecard included 10 pars. 

Freshman Emma Koch is currently tied for 10th with an 83 (+11) score. Koch had 7 pars and a key birdie on hole 15 to keep the Celts in contention.

Sophomore Regina Perez is not far behind in 12th after carding an 84 (+12). Perez logged 7 pars and a birdie on hole 15 to lower her score throughout the day.

Freshman Emma Cook struggled in the opening nine of her scorecard with a +12 to start the day. She settled into the back half of the course and finished with a +5, for a total of 89 (+17) on the day.

Notable Stats:

  • St. Thomas shot a scoring average of 3.25 on par 3 holes, good for second in the tournament.

  • St. Thomas is 3rd in pars with 39 total on Day 1

  • The Celts shot 4 birdies, which is good for second against the field of 7 teams. 

  • Emma Cook and Emma Luna are shooting E on par 3 holes

  • Regina Perez is shooting E on par 5 holes

  • Emma Cook is tied for first in individual birdies with 2
