Four Celts Place in Top Ten as UST Takes Third at SCAC Championship

BLANCO, Texas – The University of St. Thomas women's golf team concluded play at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship tournament Tuesday.

At the Vaaler Creek Golf Club, the Celts shot 325 Tuesday's final round, giving them a final team score of 653. UST took third place the tournament for the second time in as many years, finishing two strokes behind Southwestern (Texas).

Myra Truong, a senior from Beaumont, Texas (Monsignor Kelly) led the Celts with a two-round score of 163 and finished in sixth place individually. She carded an 80 in Tuesday's second round. Truong carded consecutive birdies on the par-5 4th hole and the par-3 fifth hole.

The UST players with the four lowest scores contributing to the Celts' final team score finished in the top 10 individually. Trinity Le finished tied of the seventh with a two-day score of 164, while Alyssa Goins and Emma Luna finished tied for ninth with two-day scores of 165.

Goins birdied two holes Tuesday, the par-3 5th hole and the par-5 eighth hole. A senior from Pearland, she was one of only three golfers at the event to shoot under par (-1) on par-five holes for the duration of the tournament.

Truong, meanwhile, was one of only three players to record an even-par total on the course's par-3 holes, along with two players from eventual champion Trinity (Texas). Goins had a cumulative 1-over par on the course's par-3's.

The Celts carded 12 birdies in the tournament, second only to Trinity's 16.

Juliana Hudman and Courtney Krause also competed for the Celts.

Trinity won the event with a two-day score of 627.
