Women's Basketball Falls to Austin 56-48

In a closely contested women's basketball matchup, St. Thomas (Tex.) faced a tough challenge against Austin but ultimately fell short with a final score of 56-48. The game showcased resilient defense from both teams, but Austin's offensive efforts secured them the victory.

The first quarter saw a competitive start, with St. Thomas holding a slim lead at 17-16. However, Austin took control in the second quarter, outscoring St. Thomas 17-6 and heading into halftime with a lead of 33-23.

Despite facing a deficit, St. Thomas bounced back in the third quarter, posting a 15-9 run and closing the gap to make it a 42-38 game. Hayden Morin and Macie Whitfield played pivotal roles in St. Thomas' comeback attempt, contributing significantly to the team's offensive and defensive efforts.

Austin maintained their composure in the final quarter, responding to St. Thomas' surge and securing the victory with a balanced offensive and defensive display. 

For St. Thomas, Macie Whitfield led the scoring with 12 points, while Hayden Morin contributed 11 points. Despite a strong performance at the free-throw line, St. Thomas faced challenges in field goal shooting, finishing the game with a 25.9% shooting accuracy.

The game highlighted the competitive nature of women's basketball in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with both teams displaying determination and skill throughout the matchup.
