Women's Basketball Edged By Dallas

Women's Basketball Edged By Dallas

Women's Basketball would fall to the University of Dallas Crusaders, 63-56. Although overcoming an early deficit, the Celts would come up just short in their conference home opener.

To open the game, the Crusaders would jump on the Celts, racing out to a 10-point lead just five minutes into play. St. Thomas would score all six points off of free throws and head into the second frame trailing by 11.

The offense would finally come alive for the Celts, rattling off 15 unanswered points to even the game at 20 apiece. Outscoring Dallas 19-7 in the second quarter, St. Thomas would regain momentum and head into the break trailing by just three.

The Celts would grab their first lead of the day after an Adriana Chavez layup would fall just two minutes into the half. This would be the start of a 'back and forth' battle for the lead that would last for the remainder of the contest.

Timely shots would give Dallas the advantage late, putting the pressure on the Celts. A St. Thomas three pointer would make the game a one-possession game, but the Crusaders would milk the clock and escape Houston with a victory.

Hayden Morin would play a season-high 37 minutes, leading the Celts in scoring with 14 points. Chipping in 11 points each would be Adriana Chavez and Amber Bourgeois; while Olivia Anga would record a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

St. Thomas will have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Tuesday for yet another conference bout against Southwestern.
