Women's Basketball Drops Nail-Biter, 58-55

HOUSTON,TEXAS– Women's Basketball nearly squeaked out an upset against the second-ranked team in the conference: Texas Lutheran Bulldogs. A late Bulldog bucket would edge the Celts as their final look to force overtime would come up just short.

The first quarter saw offensive runs from both units. The Celts would ultimately make the final push to take a one-point lead heading into the next frame. The Bulldogs would hit back-to-back three-pointers midway through the second quarter to spark their offense, stretching their advantage to seven points at the break.

An early St. Thomas run would erase their halftime deficit and even the playing field for the remainder of the half. After trading baskets for the entire third quarter, the Celts would be in one possession game heading into the final quarter.

An Olivia Anga free throw would knot the game up at 49 apiece with 7:57 remaining. St. Thomas would build onto this with Micyala Hamilton's pull-up jumper, giving them the 55-52 lead. Texas Lutheran would answer with a triple of their own, followed by an and-one layup to close the door on the Celts.

Freshman Ravyn Ellis would lead the Celts' offense with a season-high 12 points and six rebounds. Alexya Castillo would chip in 10 points of her own while adding four steals in 28 minutes of action. Jade Evans would own the paint, grabbing 13 boards and tallying five points.

The Celts will wrap up their season on Saturday, February 19th at 2:00 when they host Colorado College for Senior Day.
