Celts overwhelm UDallas 79-50

HOUSTON – A change of venue did little to slow down the Celts of the University of St. Thomas on Friday as they defeated the University of Dallas 79-50.

At Sharp Gymnasium on the campus of Houston Baptist University, Micayla Hamilton (FR/Richmond, Texas) scored a team-high 15 points for the Celts (19-5), who improved to 14-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Hamilton shot 6-of-9 from the floor.

Olivia Anga (SO/Rosharon, Texas) scored 11 points off the UST bench, shooting 5-of-9 from the field. Sheridan Hopkins (SR/Galveston, Texas) chipped in 10 points for the Celts, while Hayden Morin (FR/Humble, Texas) added nine points.

UD's Beyonce Perry scored a game-high 24 points for the Crusaders (3-21, 1-16 SCAC).

The Celts led 18-10 after one period of play and then pulled away from the Crusaders in the second period. UST held Dallas scoreless for nearly nine minutes as the Celts stretched their lead to 34-10; St. Thomas took a 34-15 lead into halftime.

The Celts shot 44 percent (29 of 66) while holding UDallas to 32 percent shooting (19 of 59) from the field. UST forced 24 Crusader turnovers in the game.

The game was moved to HBU after a backboard was shattered during warmups of the men's game between the two schools.

UST concludes the regular season Sunday when the Celts host Austin College at UST's Jerabeck Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
