Women's Basketball Falls to Millsaps College

Women's Basketball Falls to Millsaps College

Women's Basketball would drop a defensive dual with Millsaps College, 43-40.

The Celts and the Majors would struggle to get things going offensively, both shooting under 35% from the field. In a contest where every possession held grave importance, Millsaps would squeak out the victory in dramatic fashion.

The Celts would jump out to a 5-0 lead after an Eneily Rodriguez layup followed by an Alexya Castillo three-pointer would fall. They would keep the pressure on the Majors for the remainder of the quarter and wrap up with a 10-3 advantage.

The next period would belong to Millsaps, outscoring the Celts 15-5. St. Thomas would only connect on two field goals in the quarter and surrender their lead heading into the break.

The scoring would pick up in the second half as both teams would nearly double their first half outputs. The Majors would be the aggressors out of the gates, extending their lead to nine. However, the Celts would claw themselves back into the game, taking the lead after Adriana Chavez' three-pointer.

The final period would bring the most excitement as the contest would come down to the final seconds. Trailing by three, Castillo would be fouled on her game-tying shot, bringing her to the line for three free throws. Only converting on two of three attempts, the Celts would fail to force the game into overtime,

Olivia Anga would continue to shine, leading the Celts in scoring and rebounding with 12 points and nine boards. Alexya Castillo would pitch in 11 points, draining a pair of triples while Jade Evans would be a force in the paint, recording five blocks.

St. Thomas will have a quick turnaround as they face off with Birmingham Southern tomorrow at 11:00AM.
