Women's Basketball Falls to Arlington Baptist 68-55

Women's Basketball opened up their regular season with homecoming at the JAAC against Arlington Baptist. After four hard-fought quarters of basketball, the Celts ultimately fell 68-55 while never leading in the game.

From the opening tip, Arlington Baptist took control of the game with a three-pointer to kickstart their scoring. Yet, it wasnt enough to totally put away the Celts in the first quarter, as Ravyn Ellis slowly began to take over with six points and three rebounds. She helped with keeping the Celts in contention 19-16 at the end of quarter one. However, the second half, St. Thomas struggled to generate any offensive momentum as they only put up five points in the period. This led to a halftime score of 35-21.

To start the third, St. Thomas got lucky with a foul and two free throws to put themselves on the board, however, Arlington Baptist responded with a bucket of their own. From there, both teams traded buckets to equalize the third quarter at 17 points apiece. Despite the evenly matched second half, St. Thomas ultimately won the last twenty 34-33, yet the first half deficit was not overcome, leading to the Celt's first regular season loss of the year.

Ravyn Ellis had herself a night with 17 points and seven rebounds. Macie Whitfield also chipped in nine points of her own and six rebounds.

Up next, Women's Basketball heads to Houston Christian for a matchup with the Division 1 Huskies. Follow ustcelts.com for all scores and updates.
