Women's Basketball Edged in Conference Opener

Women's Basketball Edged in Conference Opener

Women's Basketball was edged in the conference opener against Colorado College, 61-50. Freshman forward, Nia McGee would lead the Celts in scoring with nine points off the bench.

A slow start offensively would plague St. Thomas in the first quarter as a 21 percent shooting performance would place them in an eight-point hole. In the next frame, the shooting woes would continue for the Celts, this time only converting on one bucket for the entire quarter.

Trailing 21 points to open the second half, St. Thomas would turn up the pressure midway through the third quarter. They would turn the Tigers over 15 times in the half and would outscore them by 10 points. The Colorado College lead would quickly dimmish to eight after an Alexya Castillo triple would fall with eight minutes left in the contest.

The Tigers would string together timely baskets down the stretch and extend their lead to eleven as the final buzzer sounded.

The Celts fall to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-1 in SCAC play. They will head to Seguin, Texas on December 17th for yet another conference bout with Texas Lutheran University.
