Celts ease their way past Centenary 97-36

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas had little trouble on the road to victory Friday as they defeated the Centenary Ladies 97-36.

At Centenary's Gold Dome, the Celts (18-5) jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back as they improved to 13-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Sheridan Hopkins (Galveston, Texas / Ball) finished a rebound shy of a double-double, as she scored 27 points and pulled in nine rebounds. The senior forward shot 12-of-18 from the field and also handed out four assists.

Bresha Orange (Longview, Texas / Panola College) chipped in 21 points and seven rebounds for the Celts, who remain in second place behind NCAA-ranked Trinity (Texas) in SCAC standings. Micayla Hamilton (Richmond, Texas / Foster) added 19 points and recorded five steals.

The Celts held Centenary to single digits in points in each of the first three quarters. UST led 25-8 after one period of play and took a 42-16 lead into halftime.

St. Thomas continued to pour in points after the midgame break and led 70-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Jazz Taylor (Duncanville, Texas / Abilene Christian) finished with nine points and three assists for the Celts. Zariah McInnis (Richmond, Texas / W.B. Travis) chipped in eight points for the Celts.

The Celts conclude the regular season with two home games next weekend. Their next game is Friday, Feb. 21, when they host the University of Dallas. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
