Women's Basketball Concludes Season in SCAC Quarterfinal

Trailing by 28 points late in the third quarter, St. Thomas clawed their way back into their SCAC Quarterfinal against Schreiner. The Mountaineers saw their lead cut to three with 3:24 remaining, but were able to hold on and outlast St. Thomas, 61-54, in the 2023 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament.

Schreiner raced out to a 38-19 halftime lead and then pushed its lead to 47-19 at the 6:03-mark of the third quarter before St. Thomas began its nearly miraculous comeback. Trailing 47-19, UST started chipping away at the 28-point deficit in the third quarter. The Celts cut the Mountaineers' lead to just 18 (49-31) after a three-pointer from Amber Bourgeois with 34 seconds left in the quarter. Ce'briaya Bell made a clutch jumper that pulled UST to within 12 at 54-42 with seven minutes to play in the fourth. Following this, a three-pointer from Audrey Hernandez moved UST to within one possession at 54-51 with 3:24 remaining. From there, the Mountaineers never let the Celts get closer than three, as Schreiner withstood a furious comeback attempt.

Ravyn Ellis led all Celts with 17 points in the game. Ellis was a force on both ends of the court notching also five rebounds, three steals, and a block. Audrey Hernandez also had a night scoring nine points. Then in her last game as a Celt, CeBriaya Bell gave it her all with seven points and five rebounds.

With this loss, St. Thomas Women's Basketball concludes their 2022-2023 season by making the SCAC tournament for the first time. Thank you for supporting the Celts all season long, and see you back in the winter of 2023 for more on-court acition.
