Clutch Buckets against Southwestern gives St. Thomas Second Consecutive Victory

After four tough-fought quarters, Women's Basketball showed clutch picking up their second consecutive victory against Southwestern. A late mistake by the Pirates gave St. Thomas the free throws needed for the one-point victory 59-58.

St. Thomas and Southwestern nearly went point for point in the first half. Five lead changes dictated the flow of the first two periods as neither team was able to capitalize on the other's mistakes. The Celt bench came up huge with 13 points keeping pace, as Taytum Poppe had nine. Costly Southwestern fouls also gave the Celts opportunities at the line where they went 83% from. Then as clock winded down, St. Thomas was down just one 34-33 at the half.

Then in the final two quarters, it was a similar story as seven lead changes and three ties showed how evenly matched the Celts and Pirates were. Then, Celt rebounding started to come up huge as late second-chance points allowed St. Thomas to take the lead. With the score tied at 52, Taytum Poppe came up huge with a deep three-pointer and Southwestern foul for the four point play. Then Southwestern added three quick buckets to take a 1 point lead with just seconds remaining. However in a last ditch effort, the Pirates committed a costly foul against Hayden Morin behind the arc to give her three free throw opportunities. With two conversions, St. Thomas took a one point lead and held it as they won their second straight game 59-58.

Four Celts were in double figures once again this victory. Leading the Celts was Taytum Poppe who went a perfect 100% from the floor with 14 total points including three-three-pointers. Hayden Morin was behind her with 13 total points, four assists, and five rebounds. Ce'Briaya Bell continued her strong stretch with 12 points, and Ravyn Ellis had a ten-point performance.
