Celts Fall to Schreiner to Open SCAC Play

Women's Basketball fell in their conference opener game against Schreiner 61-50. Despite multiple chances to get back into the game, the Celts had a rough second quarter to spark any chance of a comeback.

The first quarter opened with both teams trading buckets to the end. However, Schreiner outscored St. Thomas 15-10, powered by four fast breaks and seven bench points. Then in the second, the Celts struggled to get anything going offensively, adding just seven points in the quarter. Schreiner in turn went on a 12-point run to take a 28-17 lead into the locker room at the half. Coming out of the half, the Celts answered outsourcing the Mountaineers 17-15. Hayden Morin had seven points in the third quarter with a clutch three-pointer to put the Celts in striking distance down by just nine 43-34 heading into the fourth quarter. Finally the fourth quarter featured both teams trying to secure victory, however an 11 point Schreiner run gave them they cushion they needed to win 61-50.

Offensively, Hayden Morin led with 13 points and Audrey Hernandez dished out a team-high six assists. Defensively, Morin and Alexya Castillo tabbed three steals and Nia McGee had eight rebounds.

With this loss, the Celts start SCAC play 0-1. Catch Women's Basketball back in action Sunday at the JAAC against Trinity.
