Fight to the Finish! Celts face Southwestern in Saturday SCAC Matchup

Women's basketball dropped a close contest with Southwestern University 62-56. Despite an eight-point lead in the 2nd Quarter, the Pirates were able to go on an 11 point scoring run in the 4th to secure victory.

The Celts started in the first quarter hot, outscoring the Pirates 15-11. Alexya Castillo had a stellar five-point performance, and Southwestern committed costly fouls which led to six converted St. Thomas free throws. In the second quarter, both teams added an equal 14 points each. It was the St. Thomas bench that proved to be the difference with nine points in the quarter. As the first half ended, the Celts took a 29-25 lead into the locker room. In the third quarter, Southwestern began to close the gap adding 17 to St. Thomas' 13. They were able to force seven Celt turnovers in their seven-point scoring run one minute into the quarter. Even with this though, the Celts still had the lead heading into the fourth. However, the lead was not safe as the Pirates went on a 11 point scoring run to close gap and eventually take the lead two minutes into the quarter and never looked back. St. Thomas fought to the end, however, time expired to halt a Celt comeback.

Ravyn Ellis had an outstanding game recording 15 points, stealing three balls, and notching seven rebounds. Along with a total of 14 points from the bench, Amber Bourgeois had ten to contribute to the Celts' 56-point effort.

Up next, the Celts return home to face Austin College on December 30th.
