Celts Competitive Against Patriots on Homecoming

Celts Competitive Against Patriots on Homecoming

Women's basketball fell to Arlington Baptist here at the JAAC on homecoming. Despite a late rally from St. Thomas, the Arlington Baptist defense held to win 71-61.

Alexya Castillo opened up the game for the Celts hitting back-to-back threes and trading buckets with the Patroits as early in the quarter as the score tied at 8-8. The Patriots ended the 1st quarter with a 14-4 run as they extended their lead to 22-12.  Arlington Baptist continued the 2nd quarter on fire as they went on an 8-3 run before the Celts were able to start pushing back and trading shots, but that flame wouldn't last long as the Patriots started another hot streak as they closed the second half on a 12-5 run bringing the score at halftime 42-27.

The Celts open up the second half on a hot streak as they got big threes from Alexya Castillo and Sydnee Smith that would lead to a 22-10 run to close the quarter. This closed the gap of the Patriots lead to 53-49. The Patriots would open the 4th quarter with an 18-6 run to extend their lead to 71-55, shutting down the late comeback from the Celts.

Offensively Alexya Castillo led the Celts with 16 points while shooting 4-9 on threes. Hayden Morin notched eight points while shooting 2-4 from three, and freshman Taytum Poppe tacked on nine points as well as five rebounds.

Up next St. Thomas goes up against LeTourneau November 16th.  Come out to support your Celts here at the JAAC
