Celts fall 82-58 at ranked Trinity

SAN ANTONIO – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas saw their two-game winning streak snapped Friday as they fell 82-58 at ranked Trinity.

Trinity, ranked No. 23 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's NCAA Division III poll and No. 22 in the d3hoops.com poll, outscored UST 25-8 in the second quarter and took a 48-22 lead into halftime. The Tigers (8-2, 3-0 SCAC) led from start to finish.

Olivia Anga (SO/Rosharon, Texas) came off the bench to score a game-high 13 points for the Celts (8-4), who fell to 3-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Micayla Hamilton (FR/Richmond, Texas) contributed 11 points off the bench for the Celts, while Bresha Orange (SR/Longview, Texas) also scored 11 points.

The Tigers scored two baskets in the final minute of the first quarter to build their lead to nine points. A 17-2 Trinity run between the 6:57 and 1:05 marks of the second quarter gave the Tigers a 48-20 lead; the 28-point margin was Trinity's largest of the game.

Trinity players shot 49.3 percent (33 of 67) from the floor during the game while holding UST to 30 percent (23 of 77) from the floor.

Sheridan Hopkins (SR/Galveston, Texas) and Jazz Taylor (SR/Duncanville, Texas) scored eight points apiece for the Celts, while Taylor also pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.

The Celts return to action Saturday when they head to Kerrville in the Texas Hill Country to face Schreiner. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
