Women's Basketball Falls to Texas A&M Corpus Christi in Exhibition

Women's basketball visited Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Tuesday night in an exhibition game. The Celts fought to the end, but ultimately struggled against DI competition, falling by a final score of 79-41.

Jade McAlister started the game with a bang, recording a block in the opening seconds before scoring the first points of the game on the other end. Hayden Morin and Lauren Vela also scored early for UST, but the game got out of hand for the Celts by the end of the first quarter as the Islanders built up a lead of 18 points in the opening frame. UST continued to battle but couldn't get over the hump, ultimately trailing 42-12 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Sydnee Smith got the Celts on the board in the third quarter, and Ravyn Ellis got to the line four times in the period to keep the Celts' offense moving. In the fourth quarter, the Celts showcased their determination despite the lopsided score and managed to outscore the Islanders 20-17 in the closing frame. Morin had 8 points in the quarter, hitting a pair of threes, and Laura Jones had 6 for UST as they battled to the final buzzer.

Next up for St. Thomas is their regular season opener against Arlington Baptist on Saturday at 1:00, which is also Homecoming for UST! Come out to the JAAC to support your Celts!
