Baseball Drops Series Finale to Southwestern

In a high-scoring baseball matchup on March 24, 2024, Southwestern (Tex.) emerged victorious over St. Thomas (Tex.) with a final score of 12-7.

Southwestern wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, scoring three runs in the first inning. Maxwell Mims drew a walk with the bases loaded, followed by an RBI single from Tres Organ and a hit-by-pitch that brought in another run.

St. Thomas responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, courtesy of Dillon McKee's sacrifice fly and a run scoring on an error.

Southwestern added two more runs in the second inning, extending their lead to 5-2. Jacob Tanner's RBI groundout and Mims' sacrifice fly plated the runs.

St. Thomas fought back with two runs in the third inning, narrowing the gap to 5-4 on Mason Seay's RBI double and McKee's RBI double.

However, Southwestern exploded for four runs in the fourth inning, propelled by Tanner's RBI double, Mims reaching on an error, and Alexander Cannata's RBI single. They extended their lead to 8-4.

St. Thomas rallied again in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to make it a one-run game. Adam Benavidez's sacrifice fly and Armando Rocha's two-RBI double fueled the comeback, cutting the deficit to 8-7.

Southwestern continued to add insurance runs, with Jake Harris's RBI double in the sixth inning, Mims's RBI single in the seventh, and Christian Melillo's stolen base leading to a run in the eighth to secure the victory for the Southwestern.

With this loss, St. Thomas drops to 3-3 in conference play.
