Coming off a game one victory, the Celts dropped the final two games of their opening series to McMurry University. 

Game One: UST-1   McMurry-3

St. Thomas would get on the board first, kicking off the scoring in the second inning with a Dylan Lamb RBI, bringing home Kyke Bearden. However, in the bottom half of the frame, the War Hawks would respond with a run of their own to knot the score at one apiece.

This would be the only inning where the Celts would plate a run, as their bats would soon grow stagnant. Despite having two runners in scoring position late in the contest, St. Thomas would fail to capitalize, dropping game two.

Game Two: UST-12   McMurry-15

To open the final game of the series, the Celts would tack on a solo run in the top of the first, snagging the early advantage. 

The very next inning, McMurry would respond in a big way, exploding for 11 runs on six hits.  With all momentum sitting with the War Hawks, the Celts would put on an offensive clinic of their own to claw themselves back into contention. Brandon Madden would kick off the fifth inning scoring barrage with an RBI single to centerfield. McMurry would work through the lineup and eventually record two outs, but not before St. Thomas would add another three runs, cutting their deficit to six. The landscape of the game would soon change as Myles Simmons would step into the box with the bases juiced. Simmons would send a shot to deep left field for the grand slam, putting the Celts right back into the game. 

St. Thomas would plate runs in each of the final two innings but McMurry would hang on and escape with the thrilling victory. 

The Celts return to the diamond for their home opener next Saturday when they host UH-Victoria. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00PM at The John Cooper School in The Woodlands.
