Celts Split a Pair With Houston-Victoria

Celts Split a Pair With Houston-Victoria

UST Baseball split the first day of their four-game series with the University of Houston-Victoria. After dropping game one to the hot-hitting Jaguars, the Celts would answer with a convincing 8-0 win to close the day.

Game One: UST-3   UHV-7

St. Thomas would find themselves in a hole early after a UHV two-run homerun would clear the left field fence in the top of the first. The Celt pitching staff would find their groove and toss two-straight scoreless innings, opening the door for UST to claw back into the game. In the bottom of the second frame, Cameron McClure would double to right center, knocking in a run.

With their lead now cut in half, the Jaguars would explode with two solo home runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to three. The homeruns would continue to pile up on the Celts as UHV would yet again homer, this time putting them up five runs.

Dylan Lamb would record his second homerun of the year in efforts to spark a late-game comeback. However, down to their last out, with game-tying run at the plate, the Celts would come up short and drop game one, 7-3.

 Game Two: UST-8   UHV-0

The Celts would kick off game two with a bang, totaling for four runs in the first frame while slowly chipping away at the Jaguar pitching staff. Dylan Lamb would plate a run with his triple off the center field wall to open the scoring barrage. Lamb would soon be drove across home plate with Tristian Pitkin's RBI double. Freshman Lance Khan would add a run to the board with an RBI bloop single, followed a Cameron McClure RBI double.

McClure would again bat in a run in the fourth inning to bring the Celts advantage to five.

Chris Parsons would deal on the bump, tossing six scoreless innings, walking no batters and only surrendering four hits with seven punch outs. In conjunction with this stellar performance, St. Thomas' bats would stay hot, stretching their lead to eight heading into the final frame.

Caleb Desilets would ice the game for the Celts, shutting the door on UHV with a three up, three down inning.
