Baseball Drops First Two Games of Belhaven Series

Celt Baseball opened up its three game non-conference series with Belhaven this Friday afternoon. After two games of baseball, the Celts struggled to convert runs leading to two losses heading into tomorrow's finale.

Game 1 UST 1 BEL 7

St. Thomas got on the board early in the first inning when Mason Seay reached base on an error, allowing Kyle Bearden to score and giving St. Thomas a 1-0 lead. However, Belhaven quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 1-1 with a timely RBI single from Tristan Pearson.

The game remained deadlocked until the fourth inning when Belhaven took control. A fielder's choice allowed Josh Neutze to score, giving Belhaven a 2-1 lead. They extended their lead in the same inning with another RBI single from Pearson, making it 3-1 in favor of Belhaven.

Belhaven continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning, with Hunter Harrell stealing home to push their lead to 4-1. They added another run in the fifth when Hunter Estes lifted a sacrifice fly, bringing home Jake Tyndall and extending Belhaven's lead to 5-1.

In the sixth inning, Belhaven put the game out of reach with another run, courtesy of Owen Abney's RBI fielder's choice, bringing the score to 6-1.

St. Thomas struggled to generate offense against Belhaven's pitching, managing just three hits in the game. Despite their efforts, they couldn't overcome Belhaven's strong performance on both sides of the ball.

Game 2 UST 3 BEL 7

St. Thomas got off to a strong start in the first inning when Dillon McKee homered to give them an early 1-0 lead. However, Belhaven quickly responded in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from Hunter Estes, tying the game at 1-1.

The game took a turn in the third inning when Belhaven's offense came alive. Owen Abney delivered a clutch two-run single, followed by a two-RBI single from Hunter Estes, pushing Belhaven ahead 5-1.

Belhaven added to their lead in the sixth inning when Owen Abney doubled to drive in two more runs, extending their lead to 7-1.

St. Thomas attempted a comeback in the ninth inning, sparked by Kyle Bearden's two-run double, cutting the deficit to 7-3. However, it wasn't enough as Belhaven's pitching held on to secure the win.

With this victory, Belhaven improved to 4-3 on the season, while St. Thomas fell to 4-4.
