Baseball Improves to 9-0 With Series Sweep

Baseball Improves to 9-0 With Series Sweep

Game Three: UST-5 DCC-4

As UST baseball went for the weekend sweep, they ran into a competitive Dallas Christian squad that would pressure the Celts all the way till the end.

Trailing one entering the second inning, Leo Galvan recorded his first RBI of the day with single to center to drive John Sebok home. The very next inning they would regain control of the contest as yet another Galvan RBI would knock in Jason Brown. As things were looking up for the Celts, a three-run Crusader blast would flip the table and have UST fighting uphill. As both teams battled, no one was able to post anymore runs until the seventh inning. With the Celts undefeated record on the line, they were searching for an offensive spark to propel them to victory. A three-run inning capped off by a Jason Brown RBI single would be the answer the Celts needed to clinch the 5-4 victory.

Jason Brown had a game, going three-for-four with one RBI and one run scored. Galvan would record two RBIs to go along with his one hit. Nick Petro would pitch the complete game striking seven batters out and only allowing five hits.

Game Four: UST-10 DCC-0

After the first game of the doubleheader went down to the wire, the Celts handled business early to ensure the series sweep over the Crusaders. They were able to string together multiple offensive outbursts to close the door on DCC.

In the second inning, UST would plate four runs off three RBIs. An Edward Gutierrez RBI single would knock in a run, followed by Kyle Bearden's 2 RBI single to push the early lead to four. Gutierrez wasn't done there, as two innings later he would yet again drive a run in off a single to center field. Slowly the Celts chipped away at the Crusaders as Noah Martinez and Kyle Bearden would also chart RBIs during the fourth inning. With a comfortable UST lead, Bearden would show off his speed with an inside the park home run on his shot to center field to extend the lead to 9-0.

Bearden would go a perfect four-for-four on the contest, tabbing four RBIs and scoring two runs. Gutierrez would also have himself a day going three-for-four and knocking in three runs. Kalob Bacak would pick up the win, pitching four innings with five strikeouts and only allowing two hits.

The Celts will host their home opener next Friday as they take on Belhaven University.
