Baseball Splits a Pair of Contests with Belhaven

Baseball Splits a Pair of Contests with Belhaven

Game One: UST-12 Belhaven-11

A slow start to game one of the doubleheader would find the Celts trailing 3-0 early. However, Belhaven would ignite the UST offense by walking home a run in the second inning. The very next inning, Hunter Pachal would record his first RBI of the contest driving in a Leo Galvan to cut the deficit to only one run.

To combat this deficit, the Celts' bats would come alive to construct a six-run outing. RBIs by John Sebok and Leo Galvan would give UST their first lead of the contest. As the scoring fest seemed to be coming to an end, Pachal would deliver with a three-run blast to deep center to extend the score to 8-3. Errors would plague the Celts in the fifth inning which would allow Belhaven to cover ground, answering with a six-run inning of their own.

The heavyweight bout between the Celts and the Blazers would continue as both units would trade blows until the top of the seventh. Belhaven would plate two runs to transfer the pressure to UST who was down to their last three outs. With two runners on, a Sebok RBI single would drive in the equalizing run to push the game to extra innings.

Belhaven would threaten in all three of the extra innings, but the Celts defense would continually frustrate them. After stranding three runners in three innings, UST would finally capitalize to end this thriller. With the bases juiced in the bottom of the tenth, Noah Martinez would walk it off with an RBI single to right field.

Hunter Pachal would cash in four RBIs in part to his momentum changing 3-run blast. John Sebok would go three-for-six, chipping in 2 RBIs and scoring a run. Eric Moore (2-0) would pick up the win on the bump, throwing a four-inning, two hitter.

 Game Two: UST-0  Belhaven-10

After an emotional win in the first game of the doubleheader, the Celts were overwhelmed by the Blazers in game two. After a quick first inning, UST found themselves searching for that spark to jumpstart their offense. Meanwhile, Belhaven jumped on the Celts and were able to stretch their lead to 10 before the game's final out.

The Celts will return to action tomorrow at 12:00PM for the deciding match of the doubleheader.
