Celts Drop Doubleheader at NAIA Our Lady of the Lake

SAN ANTONIO – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas saw their four-game winning streak snapped Tuesday as they dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Our Lady of the Lake.

The Saints (18-15) edged the Celts 7-6 in game one, then won the second contest by a score of 12-2. Both games were scheduled for seven innings.

Tuesday's games were the first between UST and Our Lady of the Lake. OLLU is a member institution of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Red River Athletic Conference.

The Celts (11-13) return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend when they open a three-game series at Texas Lutheran in Seguin. Friday's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon Saturday.

Game One: OLLU 7, Celts 6

The Celts erased a 6-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the top of the fifth inning before OLLU walked off with a victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Leo Galvan and Tristan Pitkin each picked up two RBIs for the Celts in the game, with Galvan hitting two of UST's four base hits in the game. He hit a two-RBI double during the fifth inning, followed by an RBI single from Pitkin.

UST used seven different pitchers in the game, with each pitcher assigned one inning of work. Kalob Bacak and Kameron Craig tossing hitless, scoreless innings. Luke Sebesta also threw a scoreless inning for the Celts.

In the seventh inning, the Saints scored the winning run after Matthew Klar led off the inning with a single and moved to second on an error. The Celts opted to intentionally walk the next two batters, but then walked Pablo Trevino with the bases loaded to give the Saints the win.

Game Two: OLLU 12, Celts 2

The Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one inning and never looked back as they went on to claim the doubleheader sweep.

Landon Edwards' RBI double to score Adam Scharf from second base in the top of the seventh and final inning gave the Celts their second run. UST's Shan Gilder Jr. recorded an RBI groundout in the second inning that scored Dylan Lamb.
